Description

A hearty fusion dish combining Hungarian goulash flavors with a classic cottage pie, topped with creamy mashed potatoes.

For the Crust:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tsp caraway seeds
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a skillet, brown ground beef with onions, carrots, and garlic until beef is cooked through.
  2. Stir in tomato paste, paprika, and caraway seeds, cooking for 1 minute. Add beef broth and simmer for 10 minutes until thickened, then mix in peas.
  3. Meanwhile, boil potatoes until tender, drain, and mash with milk, butter, salt, and pepper.
  4. Spread beef mixture in a baking dish, top with mashed potatoes, and bake for 20 minutes until golden.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
