Description

A rich and creamy gratin featuring layers of tender butternut squash, nutty Gruyère cheese, and fragrant thyme, baked to golden perfection.


Ingredients

For the Crust:

  • 1 medium butternut squash, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cubed

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. In a bowl, combine heavy cream, minced garlic, thyme, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
  3. Arrange a layer of butternut squash slices in the baking dish. Pour a portion of the cream mixture over the squash and sprinkle with Gruyère cheese.
  4. Repeat layering until all squash and cream mixture are used, finishing with a layer of cheese on top. Dot with cubed butter.
  5. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes until golden and bubbly. Let rest 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
