For the Crust:
- 1 medium butternut squash, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cubed
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.
- In a bowl, combine heavy cream, minced garlic, thyme, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
- Arrange a layer of butternut squash slices in the baking dish. Pour a portion of the cream mixture over the squash and sprinkle with Gruyère cheese.
- Repeat layering until all squash and cream mixture are used, finishing with a layer of cheese on top. Dot with cubed butter.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes until golden and bubbly. Let rest 5 minutes before serving.
