For the Crust:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
  4. In a small bowl, combine cinnamon and brown sugar for the swirl.
  5. Pour half the batter into the pan. Sprinkle with half the cinnamon-sugar mixture and chocolate chips. Repeat with remaining batter and topping.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool before slicing.
