Description
A delightful sweet-savory dish featuring creamy salted ricotta spread on warm, toasted sourdough, drizzled with rich caramel for a perfect balance of flavors.
Ingredients
Scale
For the Crust:
- 1 cup whole milk ricotta cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 4 thick slices sourdough bread
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for caramel)
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of flaky sea salt for garnish
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- In a small bowl, mix the ricotta cheese with 1/2 teaspoon sea salt until well combined. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
- To make the caramel, heat granulated sugar in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly until it melts and turns amber in color. Carefully stir in heavy cream, 2 tablespoons butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Toast the sourdough bread slices in a toaster or on a grill until golden and crisp. Spread each slice with butter while still hot.
- Spread a generous layer of the chilled salted ricotta onto each buttered sourdough slice.
- Drizzle the warm caramel over the ricotta-topped bread, and sprinkle with a pinch of flaky sea salt. Serve immediately.
