Scale
For the Crust:
- 1 cup warm water (110°F)
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 8 oz burrata cheese, drained
- 1/2 cup hot honey
- 1 tsp flaky sea salt
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Add yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour until doubled.
- Punch down dough and roll out to 1/2-inch thickness. Use a round cutter to cut circles. Place a small piece of burrata in the center of half the circles, top with another circle, and seal edges tightly.
- Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F. Fry donuts in batches for 2-3 minutes per side until golden. Drain on paper towels.
- Drizzle hot honey over warm donuts, sprinkle with flaky sea salt, and garnish with fresh basil. Serve immediately.
