Description

A bold, unconventional chili that combines sweet citrus, creamy tang, and a slow-building heat, with no strict rules on ingredients or technique.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 orange, zested and juiced
  • 1 lime, zested and juiced
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained
  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream or coconut cream
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (adjust for heat)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. In a large pot, brown the ground meat over medium heat until cooked through. Drain excess fat if needed.
  2. Add diced onion and minced garlic to the pot. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in chili powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add black beans, diced tomatoes, orange zest, orange juice, lime zest, and lime juice. Bring to a simmer.
  5. Reduce heat to low and stir in heavy cream. Let it simmer gently for 20-25 minutes, allowing flavors to meld and heat to build slowly.
  6. Season with salt and black pepper. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
