For the Crust:
- 1 pre-made pie crust or homemade dough
- 4 large onions, thinly sliced
- 4 slices bacon, chopped
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 cup grated Gruyère cheese
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out pie crust and press into a tart pan. Prick the bottom with a fork and pre-bake for 10 minutes.
- In a large skillet, cook bacon until crispy. Remove and set aside. In the same skillet, melt butter and add onions. Cook over medium-low heat until caramelized, about 20-25 minutes.
- In a bowl, whisk together eggs, cream, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Spread caramelized onions over the pre-baked crust, top with bacon, thyme, and cheese. Pour egg mixture over the top.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until the filling is set and golden. Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
