For the Crust:
- 1 loaf French bread or baguette
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 medium tomatoes, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (optional)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, olive oil, minced garlic, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Slice the bread in half lengthwise and place cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet. Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over both halves.
- Arrange the tomato slices over the garlic butter, then sprinkle with chopped basil and optional mozzarella cheese.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the bread is crispy and the cheese (if using) is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven, let cool for 2-3 minutes, then slice and serve warm.
