Description

Savory Greek-seasoned beef wrapped in warm pita, topped with creamy roasted garlic feta sauce and a drizzle of spicy hot honey. A quick and flavorful weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 large pita breads
  • 1 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 1 head roasted garlic (squeezed from cloves)
  • 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (for sauce)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tbsp hot sauce (like Sriracha)
  • Optional toppings: sliced tomatoes, red onion, cucumber, fresh parsley

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Cut the top off a head of garlic, drizzle with olive oil, wrap in foil and roast for 30-40 minutes until soft. Let cool, then squeeze out cloves.
  2. In a skillet over medium-high heat, add 1 tbsp olive oil. Add ground beef, oregano, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook until browned, breaking up meat, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. For the sauce: In a small bowl, mash roasted garlic cloves. Add feta cheese, Greek yogurt, 2 tbsp olive oil, and lemon juice. Stir until smooth. Add a splash of water if too thick.
  4. In a small saucepan, combine honey and hot sauce. Warm over low heat until combined. Set aside.
  5. Warm pita breads in a dry skillet or microwave. Spread each with a generous amount of feta sauce.
  6. Top with cooked beef, then drizzle with hot honey. Add optional toppings if desired. Fold and serve.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste. For a milder version, use less hot sauce. Roasted garlic can be made ahead and stored in the fridge.
