Ingredients
Scale
For the Crust:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 4 large pita breads
- 1 cup crumbled feta cheese
- 1 head roasted garlic (squeezed from cloves)
- 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 2 tbsp olive oil (for sauce)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 tbsp hot sauce (like Sriracha)
- Optional toppings: sliced tomatoes, red onion, cucumber, fresh parsley
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 400°F. Cut the top off a head of garlic, drizzle with olive oil, wrap in foil and roast for 30-40 minutes until soft. Let cool, then squeeze out cloves.
- In a skillet over medium-high heat, add 1 tbsp olive oil. Add ground beef, oregano, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook until browned, breaking up meat, about 5-7 minutes.
- For the sauce: In a small bowl, mash roasted garlic cloves. Add feta cheese, Greek yogurt, 2 tbsp olive oil, and lemon juice. Stir until smooth. Add a splash of water if too thick.
- In a small saucepan, combine honey and hot sauce. Warm over low heat until combined. Set aside.
- Warm pita breads in a dry skillet or microwave. Spread each with a generous amount of feta sauce.
- Top with cooked beef, then drizzle with hot honey. Add optional toppings if desired. Fold and serve.
Notes
You can customize the seasonings to taste. For a milder version, use less hot sauce. Roasted garlic can be made ahead and stored in the fridge.
