Description

Soft banana bread dough swirled with cinnamon sugar and topped with cream cheese frosting.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup mashed ripe banana
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 12 tbsp milk (for frosting)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk with a pinch of sugar; let stand 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, mashed banana, granulated sugar, melted butter, egg, salt, and yeast mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled.
  4. Punch down dough. Roll out on a floured surface into a 12×8 inch rectangle.
  5. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon. Spread softened butter over dough, then sprinkle cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly.
  6. Starting from a long side, roll dough tightly into a log. Cut into 12 equal slices.
  7. Place slices in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. While rolls bake, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth. Spread frosting over warm rolls. Serve warm.
